The National Bank of Poland and the Bank of Lithuania are jointly releasing coins dedicated to the 250th anniversary of the National Education Commission.

 

The reverse of the coin shows a composition of books decorated with a laurel branch and a quote from the first National Education Commission in 1773. October 24 publication. On the obverse is the stamp of the National Education Commission. The seal has a round badge with five fields with the coat of arms of the Polish crown and Lithuania, and in the center the coat of arms of Čiolek, a relative of King Stanislaus Augustus. Around the seal along the rim is the inscription: Collegium Praefectorum Publicae Institutioni (literally: College of Governors of Public Education). The description indicates the original legal name: "Commission supervising the education of national noble youth".

 

On the initiative of King Stanislaus Augustus Poniatovskis in 1773 October 14 The National Education Commission was established by the resolution of the Divisional Seimas. The Commission was the first state educational institution not only in Poland, but also in Europe. The Commission's activities were financed by the assets received from the liquidation of the Jesuit order. Initially, the commission consisted of four senators and four members of the Seimas.
