Named for its long, distinctively shaped tail, the Australian wedge-tailed eagle has a wingspan of over 2.5 meters. This eagle is able to fly tirelessly for many hours, soaring at altitudes of 2,000 meters and above thanks to the thermal air currents rising from the sun-baked terrain of Australia.
The coin depicts a wedge-tailed eagle with outstretched wings, the coin is struck in high relief, with a prestigious finish. The striking appearance of the coin is further enhanced by the fact that the edges of the eagle and the coin are carefully gilded with serrated edges in 24 carat gold. The design includes the words "AUSTRALIAN WEDGE-TAILED AGE", the Perth Mint "P" mintmark and the weight, fineness and year of the coin.
