The coin dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Bank of Lithuania uses artistic means to show the leap of a century: on the obverse - the values of the past, on the reverse - those of the future.

Established on September 27, 1922 in Kaunas as a joint stock company. Share capital 12 million litas (paid in gold and US dollars, 80% belonged to the Lithuanian state treasury). The manager was appointed by the President of the Republic of Lithuania. The Bank of Lithuania issued litas banknotes (introduced on 10.02.1922), regulated the amount of money in circulation, the litas exchange rate by economic means, directly credited other credit institutions, industrial and trading companies (primarily exporting), cooperatives and farmers, carried out deposits, international settlement operations and another. The strict monetary policy of the Bank of Lithuania helped maintain a stable litas exchange rate and during the Great Depression, the litas became one of the most stable currencies in the world (it maintained gold parity until 1940). In 1929, the Bank of Lithuania had 26 departments. In 1931, he became a shareholder of the Bank of International Settlements.

The main objective of the bank is to maintain price stability. The Bank of Lithuania issues money, together with the central banks of other countries that have adopted the euro and the European Central Bank, forms and implements a unified monetary policy of the euro zone, regulates the circulation of money and credit, organizes cross-border settlements, supervises commercial banks and other credit institutions, insurance companies, activities of securities market participants, other financial institutions, payment systems, examines disputes between consumers and financial institutions, manages, uses or otherwise disposes of foreign reserves. Compiles and publishes Lithuanian financial statistics, compiles the country's balance of payments. Maintains correspondence relations with the central banks of the most important Western countries. Manages the Lithuanian Mint. 690 employees (2023).

The artistic composition of the reverse of the coin conveys a vision of the future in the language of symbols, incorporates the inscription “Lietuvos bankui 100” (Centenary of the Bank of Lithuania) and a piece of the logo of the Bank of Lithuania, the year 2022.

The obverse of the coin features a fragment of the interior of the building of the Bank of Lithuania in Kaunas – a symbol of the origin of central banking Lithuania in the interwar period, one of the most impressive buildings symbolising Kaunas’ prosperity. The gallery on the second floor is surrounded by a balustrade, the glazed ceiling of the operating room is surrounded by caissons, painted in historical and mythological motifs (even today visitors to the Bank of Lithuania can still admire the view, and the bank’s cash desks are open here). On the left, the composition features the Vytis, the symbol of Lithuania’s coat-of-arms, an inscription “Lietuva” (Lithuania), the denomination “€20” and the logo of the Lithuanian Mint.
