$5 Lady Liberty

The $5 Lady Liberty gold coin, also known as the Half Eagle was produced between 1866 and 1908. It was the first gold coin minted by the United States Government and it was produced by the millions as they primarily served as currency in America. Created by Christian Gobrecht, it is a smaller denomination of the larger $10 Lady Liberty gold coins.

The front of the $5 Lady Liberty gold coin features Lady Liberty with her hair in a tight bun, wearing a coronet with the word LIBERTY inscribed on it surrounded by the thirteen stars that symbolize the thirteen original American colonies, while the back of the coin features a proud bald eagle with wings spread, standing amongst olive branches. The eagle is clinching three arrows in his talons with a striped American shield on his chest.
