The Monnaie de Paris Chinese Calendar series presents a new animal every year, with 2023 dedicated to the Year of the Rabbit.

 

Surrounded by a circle of traditional Chinese motifs, a rabbit is featured in the center of the coin. He appears to step through the coin, emerging from the temple door displayed on the obverse. The ideogram for the rabbit is visible on the right side. The year date "2023" and the inscription "Year of the rabbit" are struck at the top in the outer circle.

 

The obverse shows all the animals of the Chinese zodiac, displayed on a screen surrounding a traditional Chinese temple door. A complete cycle of the Chinese zodiac will span from 2018 to 2029, with each of these twelve years featuring a specific animal from the calendar. The face value is indicated at the top left, and the abbreviation "RF" (French Republic) is featured on the door.
