This gold coin from the renowned Austrian Mint is another issue in the series “Austria’s Unsung Heroines.” Released annually since 2023, the series highlights extraordinary women whose contributions have had a lasting impact beyond their time. The 2026 edition is dedicated to the musician, composer, and pianist Hilde Loewe-Flatter—a significant figure in Austrian music history who remained largely in the background. Born in Vienna in 1895, she gained recognition after World War I as a sought-after piano accompanist and collaborated with prominent artists of her era. Under the pseudonym “Henry Love,” she composed songs that achieved international acclaim and were performed by stars such as Marlene Dietrich and Richard Tauber. Her work blends serious music with lighter genres, all infused with a distinctive Viennese character. After emigrating to England, she continued her musical career as a pianist and educator. This gold coin honors Hilde Loewe-Flatter as an artist whose compositions remain relevant today.

The 50 euro gold coin is struck from 1/4 ounce of gold (Au 986). It features the highest PROOF (PF) quality and a smooth edge. The mintage is strictly limited to 20,000 pieces. Each coin is presented in an elegant case with a numbered certificate of authenticity.

The obverse features a contemplative profile portrait of Hilde Loewe-Flatter, reflecting her artistic depth and inner focus. The design is framed by the inscription “REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH” and her name “HILDE LOEWE-FLATTER.” The edge of the coin harmoniously incorporates the year of issue “2026” and the face value “50 EURO.”

The reverse presents an expressive depiction of a pianist, symbolizing the musical essence of her work. A subtle graphic element references her pseudonym “Henry Love”: a mask-like silhouette represents the male name under which she published her compositions. This artistic solution combines biographical depth with contemporary design and emphasizes Hilde Loewe-Flatter’s significance as a composer and musician of lasting value.
