In commemoration of 1940 June 18 commemorating the 80th anniversary of the appeal, the 130th anniversary of the birth of Charles de Gaulle and the 50th anniversary of his death, this coin commemorates one of the most influential French leaders in the country's history.
The reverse of this coin depicts Charles de Gaulle at different stages of his life: during his military and political career. The obverse of the coin also features the cross of Lorraine, symbolizing the freedom and unification of France. This cross was erected at the General Memorial in Colombey-les-Deux-Églises.
