The story of Una and the Lion is told in the first book of Edmund Spenser's medieval epic The Faerie Queene, one of the longest poems in the history of British literature. Una is a beautiful princess who, in order to save her mother and father from a cruel dragon, seeks Red Cross, a noble knight destined to become St. George, patron of England.
During her journey, she faces many challenges that test her humility and determination, including an encounter with a ferocious lion. Struck by her beauty, compassion and humility, his rage turns to charm, and as Una continues her journey, the lion becomes her steadfast guard and loyal companion, protecting her from danger.
