In 2023, to mark the centenary of Gustave Eiffel's death, the Paris Mint is honoring him with a collection that highlights this well-known engineer and his work. A famous French engineer and businessman specializing in the production of metal structures. The legacy of Gustave Eiffel: iconic works that shaped the landscape of France and the world.
The obverse side of the coin features a portrait of Gustave Eiffel in front of the arch of the tower named after him. The portrait was created in such a way that his features, hair and clothes were made of rivets, as if Gustave Eiffel was alone with the metal constructions that he envisioned throughout his life.
The reverse of the coin features images of some of the architect's major works. In its center, the Eiffel Tower seen from above divides the drawing into several zones. In the space to the left, the Statue of Liberty shows her skeleton transparently. Above the top of the tower we recognize the Garabito viaduct. On the right is an airplane plan imagined by Gustav Eiffel, LE. Finally, under the tower, we find the Porto Maria Pia Bridge, which matches the face value.
