The reference to René Lacoste is twofold: this racquet-shaped coin alludes to the tennis champion and creator of the first metal racquet pictured here.
The handle on the obverse is similar to the handle of a real tennis racket, and the engraving reflects the roughness of the object. The string design features a crocodile and a ball. The crocodile, René Lacoste's nickname, became the emblem of the brand. And as a tribute to Simone Thion de La Chaume, his wife and champion golfer, the tennis ball has the texture of a golf ball.
The same realism can be seen on the reverse, with just one additional detail: the year of manufacture is engraved on the top of the handle. The cords are replaced with an emblematic cotton pique pattern.
And below par, the polo shirt features a lacing design at the top that looks nothing like tennis balls.
