In 2021 April 29 The Federal Mint Swissmint has released a new commemorative coin. Gold coin "Women's right to vote" Swissmint commemorates the right to vote for women introduced at the national level.

Mass efforts for women's equal political rights began in the 19th century. After a long struggle, women's suffrage (the right to vote and participate in elections) was finally introduced in Switzerland in a national vote in 1971 on February 7, and officially entered into force in 1971 March 16. Over fifty years ago, voters voted to give women the right to vote and run for office at the state level with a clear 66% majority. In the subsequent elections of the National Council in 1971 eleven women were elected in October. In the following years, the share of women in the National Council increased steadily and currently stands at 42%. in 2021 February 7 marks the 50th anniversary of the introduction of women's suffrage at the national level. Swissmint commemorates this important milestone in Swiss political history with a 50 franc gold coin designed by Karin Widmer, a graphic designer from Wabern near Bern.

The artistic design of the gold coin was created in 1966. born Karin Widmer, living in Wabern near Bern. She attended design school in Bern and worked as a graphic designer/illustrator for several years. Since 1995 she runs her own studio and uses her illustrations, sketches and cartoons to create newspapers, teaching aids, books for children and young people, CD covers and special stamps for Europe.
