From 2020 Monnaie de Paris will trace the history of American independence through a collection of collector coins. 2020 it is 240 years since Marquis de Lafayette arrived in Boston at the Hermione frigate.
Lafayette came to the aid of American settlers led by George Washington, taking 6,000 men together. This event was the driving force behind the victories that led to U.S. independence.
The design of these coins is similar to the design of the old medal.
The obverse depicts a portrait of Marquis de Lafayette in profile, as were the coins of the Monarchy or the Empire.
The reverse is the coat of arms in the center of Hermione, the frigate on which Marquis de Lafayette traveled from France to Boston. At the top of the coat of arms are lilies reminiscent of a monarchy. the coat of arms is surrounded by the French and American flags, which reproduce the signature of U.S. independence.
