The reverse of the coin features an image of the sculpture ‘Pieta’ by Stanislovas Kuzma, a memorial to the defenders of Lithuania's freedom. The image is surrounded by the inscription 1991 • SAUSIO • TRYLIKTOJI (13thof January 1991) and the year of issue (1996).
The obverse of the coin features the Vytis inside a shield with ribbons to each side, surrounded by the inscription LIETUVA (Lithuania), denomination (50 litas), and the mintmark of the Lithuanian Mint.
